Centennial Fields Renovation Project

Anthony - Mayor - Mikey 2.jpeg

As Mayor of Morgan Hill, I've had many important meetings—but none quite like the one with Anthony, age 12, and his little brother Mikey, just 9 years old. One afternoon, these two boys approached me as I was walking through the Park Place Apartments. “Are you the mayor?” Anthony asked, his tone half-curious, half-bold. The question caught me a little off guard. I smiled and replied with a bit of humor, “Who's asking?” Anthony stood tall and introduced himself along with his brother.

Anthony and Mikey had a simple, yet powerful request: "Can you help us get better fields to play on?" Their neighborhood’s natural turf fields are riddled with potholes, patches, and uneven surfaces—far from ideal for a spirited game of soccer or flag football. Anthony and Mikey, along with their friends, play soccer on cement inside their apartment complex, just for the love of the sport. It just isn’t right.

I explained the challenge—a nearly $4 million price tag to install artificial turf fields that would be safe, durable, and accessible year-round. Their response from the two boys was unforgettable: "We will help you raise the money." No hesitation, just heart.

That moment changed everything. It reminded me why we serve—to lift up voices that are too often unheard. Anthony and Mikey aren't just kids with a dream; they are a call to action for all of us. Their resolve lit a fire, and it's now my mission to ensure these kids, and all the families of Park Place Apartments and the surrounding area get the fields they deserve.

Play should never be a luxury. And thanks to two brave brothers, we’ve started a movement that promises to bring lasting joy, health, and opportunity to Morgan Hill’s future.
